Emilio Medina

Emilio Medina is the Technical-Scientific Director of UDIBI at the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico, where he is leading research projects including the development of biopharmaceutical products, technology transfer and protein characterization. He is currently member of the National Research System of Mexico.

Emilio graduated as Biochemical Engineer from the Technological Institute of Merida (ITM), he obtained his Master in Biotechnology at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM) and did his doctoral studies in Molecular Biology at the Institute for Scientific and Technological Research of San Luis Potosi (IPICYT). He attended to doctoral stays at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and the Newcastle University in England.

Emilio has over 10 years of experience in the development of biopharmaceuticals and has been involved in regulatory, technical and academic activities related to quality, non-clinical and clinical aspects of biopharmaceuticals. He has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, mainly describing the critical quality attributes of biopharmaceuticals and their impact on functionality, and holds 2 patents related to bioprocesses granted by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property. He has participated in various national and international scientific meetings focused on the development and evaluation of quality of biosimilars.
